While Korean by heritage, Dr. Ethan Sung Ko is a true Virginia native who grew up in the Northern Virginia suburbs. Dr. Ko received his Bachelors of Science at James Madison University in Harrisonburg and further pursued his Masters in Physiology at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond before completing his Doctor of Osteopathy at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Ko completed his Residency at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ where he also worked as a hospitalist prior to completing his Nephrology Fellowship at the prestigious Georgetown University in Washington, DC. While at Georgetown he was named Chief Fellow and was recognized for his extensive research in veterans afflicted with cardiorenal syndrome at the National Institute of Health and DC Veterans Affairs Hospital.
It was during their time together at Georgetown when Drs. Ko & Rahmat discovered their common vision for patient care. Through exposure of a diverse patient population with unique cases, Dr. Ko believes that no two patients are the same and each individual deserves a compassionate and patient-centered care plan. They both feel privileged to join hands and serve the Fredericksburg community.
In his free time Dr. Ko is a passionate fan of the Washington Redskins and enjoys staying active outdoors by golfing, hiking, biking, kayaking and snowboarding just to name a few. He also volunteers with the rescue squad, free clinic, Habitat for Humanity and most especially prides himself in participating in missions to medically underserved communities and looks forward to being able to bring that work here locally.
